What WinBastion knows, and where it stays
Short version: everything stays on your PC. There is no account, no analytics and no crash reporting. The company-wide policy that governs all of this is the Privacy Policy; this page adds the WinBastion-specific details.
Stored on your PC
WinBastion keeps its working data in C:\ProgramData\WinBastion: the journal of changes it made and their previous state, alerts, health history, the disk scan cache, defragmentation history, settings, and cached web descriptions. Your dashboard preferences (mode, theme, filters) are stored by the tray app for your Windows user only. All of it is removed when you uninstall.
Sent from your PC
- Update checks. Every six hours the service asks GitHub's public API for the latest WinBastion release and, if you have automatic updates on, downloads the installer from the same place. GitHub sees the request like any web request. Turn this off in Settings.
- Web descriptions. When you expand a service or an app, the dashboard may ask Wikipedia for a one-paragraph summary of that name. The name of the service or app is the only thing sent. Results are cached for 30 days.
- Look-up links. The Bing, Google, Microsoft Learn and other links in the dashboard open your browser; nothing is sent until you click them.
That is the complete list. WinBastion does not send usage statistics, hardware identifiers, file names, crash dumps or anything else.
The app usage feature
The Apps page shows how often you launch programs and how long they stay in the foreground. Those figures come from records Windows already keeps for every user (the launch history behind the Start menu and the prefetch cache). WinBastion reads them; it does not add tracking, and the figures never leave the PC.
Tips and supporter codes
Payments happen on the payment provider's page, never inside the app, and WinBastion never sees card or bank details. If you tip, the provider tells us the amount and the email you gave it, and we email a supporter code. Entering the code in the app changes a badge; it sends nothing. Details: Privacy Policy, section 2.4.
Licence
WinBastion is free of charge for personal and commercial use on any number of PCs. It is provided as is, without warranty. Do not redistribute modified builds under the WinBastion name.
